Established in 2000 by the governments of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, the International Visegrad Fund is a donor organisation dedicated to promoting regional cooperation in Central Europe. With an annual budget of EUR 10 million, to which the Visegrad countries contribute equally, the Fund promotes partnerships between civil society organisations, develops relationships, shares ideas and strengthens mutual understanding.
It offers various funding programmes, including Visegrad Grants, which support joint projects involving NGOs, public institutions, municipalities, private companies and non-profit organisations from at least three Visegrad countries. In addition, scholarships and grants are available for Masters and Post-Masters students and researchers in all disciplines, allowing study and research at accredited institutions in Central and Eastern Europe for up to two semesters. The Fund also provides artist residencies to facilitate the mobility of artists, groups and cultural professionals from the V4 countries within the region and in New York, thus fostering creativity and collaboration.
The Fund focuses on seven key areas - culture, education, innovation, democratic values, public policy, social development, environment and tourism - and seeks to advance progress through innovative initiatives. Its vision is of a Central Europe united by an understanding of a common history, mutual respect and cooperation for a better future in a wider European context.
Regular calls for proposals keep the Fund's programmes dynamic, with opportunities currently open, such as the Visegrad Grants 2025, which support regional partnerships between civil society organisations. The University of Economics in Bratislava (Slovakia), University of Economics in Katowice (Poland), Mendel University Brno (Czech Republic), University of Pécs (Hungary) are involved in the current call.
